First Presbyterian church
A place to experience, express, and explore the love of God
About FPC – Vision, Mision, and Leadership
First Presbyterian Church of Lafayette is a place to experience, express, and explore the love of God!
Our Mission:  We at First Presbyterian Church are seeking the wholeness we believe Almighty God, our Creator, promises through Jesus Christ, our Lord.  Through our worship, study, and life together, we are finding God’s wholeness for ourselves and, guided by the Holy Spirit, seek to share it with our community and our world through prayer, service, outreach, music, and fellowship.

Our History: First Presbyterian Church was established in 1875 as the Vermillionville Presbyterian Church. As the region grew and became incorporated as the city of Lafayette, we also grew and changed our name to reflect our identity in the community.

From our humble beginnings as a faith community that sold roses grown on our property to raise funds for our sanctuary, we were later able to help support  our brothers and sisters at First United Methodist through the difficult years of the depression. As the years continued, and through the boom and bust of our region's economy, we have remained true to our Reformed faith by supporting a kindergarten when there was no public school option and working with others to develop non-profits that serve the region's poor and needy.

Today: We continue to work collaboratively with other ministry partners through Meals on Wheels, Communities Uniting in Prayer and Service, United Christian Outreach, Family Promise, and the Wesley United Campus Ministry. Our current focus is on flood recovery, and we are part of a collaborative response of the Presbytery of South Louisiana and Presbyterian Disaster Assistance. Our local partner is Rebuilding Together Acadiana. We are also members of the Downtown Faith Alliance and the Bread or Stones Campaign.

Above all, FPC is a place where all are welcome – and that includes you!

"Presbyterian" means "governed by elders." Just as Moses called elders to lead each tribe and Jesus called disciples to share in his ministry, we believe that God has called men and women of faith to govern and guide our work and life together as a people of God.
These leaders are called by God and elected by the congregation for service.
