SOLES 4 SOULS - Shoe Drive

SOLES 4 SOULS — We just bagged up another 200 pairs of shoes to go to Jerusalem Christian Church to help start microbusinesses around the globe!  A HUGE thank you to Rose Marcus and Pam Stroup for having the “SOUL” to get those put together and bagged up for collection.

CHRISTMAS CHEER FOR MOSS GARDENS — Moss Gardens is a low income housing apartment community for seniors, subsidized by the federal government’s Housing and Urban Development Division (HUD).  This year the elderly and disabled residents have suffered severe reductions in their benefits.  Residents who used to receive $80 per household now receive $30; those who received $40, now get $15; and those who received $30 are getting only $10 a month in benefits.  This reduction makes it almost impossible for them to buy basic necessities such as hygiene, toiletry, and paper supplies.

We are collecting necessities for these residents and will deliver them for Christmas.  All items can be bought cheaply at Dollar Tree (everything’s $1), Dollar General, or Sam’s.  If you are unable to shop, give your donation to Minnie Cook or Sue Turner and they will shop for you.

CHRISTMAS EVE WORSHIP Join us Christmas Eve for Worship with Communion & Candlelight.  The celebration worship will begin with an extended Prelude featuring local classical guitarists at 6:45pm. Childcare is provided, and we have battery powered candles for little ones available on request.

SERVICE OF LESSONS AND MUSIC —Join us for our annual Service of Lessons and Music on December 13 at 11:00 a.m. This traditional service follows the pattern of the Service of Nine Lessons and Carols developed in 1918 by King’s College in Cambridge with the intent of “bringing a more imaginative approach to worship.” Come and be inspired by the Word proclaimed through scripture and song together.

CHILDREN & YOUTH MINISTRIES Children ages 3-3rd grade will leave the Sanctuary following the Time with Young Disciples for a time of Bible study and discovery.  Children 4th grade and up will meet on Wednesdays at 5:30 pm for dinner before splitting into two groups. Youth in grades 4-6 will be enjoying a variety of interactive Bible Studies, games, and service projects. Youth including 6th graders (with parental permission) and older are meeting to explore what it means to follow Jesus and how being a Presbyterian offers a unique way to express faith as a Christian.

CHRISTMAS DINNER & CAROLS  Fun for all ages!  Join us at 5:30pm in the Fellowship Hall for a special Christmas Dinner and celebration of the season.  The church will provide a turkey and pork roast.  Please bring a side and/or dessert to share.  We’ll sing favorite Christmas Carols and the “Twelve Days of Christmas.”  Please sign up after worship in the Narthex.
