PDA Volunteer Village!
Although it was not a named storm, the flooding experienced in August of 2016 was the worst experienced in centuries. Many of the homes flooded were in areas that had never flooded before and therefor they had no insurance.
More than 4,400 homes were flooded in 6 Parishes of the Acadian region (that's Cajun country).
While the region was declaired a natural disaster, there is only so much that can be done through FEMA. First Presbyterian has been working with our local VOAD group and other partners like C.U.P.S. and the Acadiana Diaper Depot to collect and distribute materials, but that's not enough either.
We need you.
In partnership with the Presbytery of South Louisiana, we have set up a PDA Volunteer Village in Lafayette, and another in Hammond. While we know there are ongoing recoveries around the world from other disasters, we ask you to consider God's call to work in partnership with us - here and now.
Please call the PDA call center (866) 732-6121. We might even cook you some catfish couvillion or red beans and rice! Your room is ready. Don't forget Lafayette.
Showers are provided by our friends at First United Methodist!
Our Youth are also giving up some space to provide for your comfort while you are here, and we are all praying for you!
Hand prints from our youth group are waiting to lift you up while you extend the hand of Christ to others. Oh, we also have this really amazing worksite partner called Rebuilding Together Acadiana.
So, what are you waiting on? Call PDA, organize a trip, and get on down here!
